Ingredients

  • 12 large sea scallops
  • 12 slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2. Remove the side muscle from the scallops, rinse and pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. 3. Season each scallop with salt and pepper, then wrap each one with a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
  4. 4. Place the bacon-wrapped scallops on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. 5. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Brush each scallop generously with the maple glaze.
  6. 6. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and the scallops are cooked through.
  7. 7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Cooking Notes

  • Ensure the scallops are dry before wrapping with bacon to ensure crispiness.
  • You can broil the scallops for a few minutes at the end to caramelize the glaze.

Beer, Wine, Cocktail Pairings

  • Beer Pairing: A light, crisp lager or a Belgian-style wheat beer would complement the richness of the bacon and scallops.
  • Wine Pairing: Pair with a dry, unoaked Chardonnay or a sparkling Prosecco to cut through the smokiness of the bacon.
  • Cocktail Pairing: A classic martini or a mojito would be refreshing and complementary to the rich flavors of the dish.
